Simpson Strong-Tie, the leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, hosted “Do What You Can Day” on Wednesday, November 3, its annual day dedicated to giving back to the community . More than 750 employees in the US and Canada participated in various activities benefiting individuals and families worldwide.
The company’s signature activity for the day was building water filters at eight of its facilities to provide families across the globe with clean water for 10 years. A total of 746 water filters were built, equating to 1,119 volunteer hours and $32,000 value of volunteer time. The activity also offset 214 lb. of carbon.
Other company offices engaged in projects to help their local communities, including collecting 878 lb. of food, packing 126 food boxes, providing 20 underserved children with winter clothes, and building four picnic tables and five doghouses.
Do What You Can Day is a celebration of and commitment to Barclay Simpson’s principle of giving back to others. He said, “We’re all connected in some way and are all part of a greater community . . . Help out your neighbor, make time for others, do what you can.”
“This is our sixth year of making positive social impact, not only in our local communities where we live and work but by helping people all over the world. We’re very proud of our employees’ commitment to one of our company values — Give Back — and look forward to expanding Do What You Can Day in 2022 and beyond,” said Karen Colonias, president and CEO of Simpson Strong-Tie.
