Columbus, Ohio — Simpson Strong-Tie, the leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, has nominated Cap City Athletic Association founder Missy Joseph for the company’s Barc Simpson Hero Award, a national honor awarded annually to recognize outstanding contributions to community service and exemplary commitment to the company’s founding principles of hard work, ingenuity, passion, and teamwork.
Joseph and her husband, along with a team of volunteers, founded Cap City Athletic Association in 2013 as a 501c3 youth athletic association based on the West Side of Columbus, offering football and cheerleading programs emphasizing the importance of academic achievement, sportsmanship, teamwork, good character, and community and parental involvement.
Since its founding, more than 7,000 area youth have benefited from the association, which this year will see more than 850 kids enrolled in programs including baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, and soccer. Last year, the Cap City Athletic Association foundation helped over 750 children receive a Christmas present and provided meals for 40 families.
Joseph joined Simpson Strong-Tie in 2020 as an associate inside sales representative and credits the company’s culture, flexibility, and work/life balance as key factors enabling her to continue her commitment to the growth and success of Cap City Athletics. She was also nominated for (and won) the Barc Simpson Hero Award in 2020.
“Missy’s unwavering commitment to family, community, and of course her team at Simpson Strong-Tie is an embodiment of our founding corporate value that everyone matters,” says Simpson Strong-Tie Columbus Branch Manager Bryan Rychlik. “Her dedication and the achievements of the Cap City Athletic Association in supporting the positive growth of thousands of area kids are an incredible investment in the future of Columbus, and we’re proud to nominate Missy for this prestigious national service award.”
