Simpson Strong-Tie, a leader in engineered structural connectors, fasteners and building solutions, has upgraded its Strong-Drive® SDCF Timber CF and SDCFC Timber CFC mass timber fasteners with a new point design, a new coating option and additional sizes.
Designed for use with cross-laminated timber, mass timber construction and general interior applications, the screws feature a heavy-duty, fully threaded shank for strength and high withdrawal resistance. The SDCF Timber CF screw has a flat head with nibs for a flush finish, while the SDCFC Timber CFC has a compact cylinder head for a clean, countersunk finish. Both head styles include a deep, six-lobe recess for a secure drive.
A new addition to the screws’ design is SawTooth® point technology, which enables fast starting and easy driving. The screws are also now available with a black e-coat finish — a construction-durable, nonmetallic coating offering corrosion resistance in interior, dry-service applications.
With the new sizes, the SDCF Timber CF screw now comes in three diameters: 0.315" (lengths from 4 3/4" to 13 3/4"), 0.390" (lengths from 4" to 17 3/4") and 0.470" (lengths from 7 7/8" to 23 5/8"). The SDCFC Timber CFC screw now comes in two diameters: 0.315" (lengths from 4 3/4" to 22 7/8") and 0.390" (lengths from 9 1/2" to 39 3/8").
“Engineered for strength, SDCF and SDCFC screws offer a reliable, high-performance option for the unique needs of mass timber construction,” said Brannan Busch, senior product manager for Simpson Strong-Tie. “With these latest enhancements and sizes, we’ve increased the screws’ versatility even further to accommodate the demands of this growing and rapidly changing industry segment.”
